May 27, 2009

1. Milk Man: Milk used to be delivered to people everyday, or every week. Now people can just go buy it in a grocery store, so there is no longer the need for the Milk Man.

2. Ice Man: Ice used to be delivered as well, and now, people can make their own, or buy it at grocery stores or gas stations, so there is no longer the need for the Ice Man either.

3.Telephone Switchboard Operat0rs: Used to be in charge of transferring calls and information. Now we have an automatic electronic switchboard, so no more operators needed.

4. Town Criers: Used to call out the time, or any messages that was important to the town.

5. Telegraph Technician: used to write down the messages sent by telegraph and monitor the telegraph machines. Now we have telephones, and email, and no longer use telegraphs, so these people are no longer needed.

6. Coal Deliverers: Coal also used to be delivered, to warm the house, but now with air conditioners in most houses, there is no need for coal, and thus no need for deliverers.

7. Map Makers: a long time ago people used to travel and write maps as they went. This job no longer exists.

8. Lamp Lighters: People who used to go around towns with lantern and light all the street lamps. With the introduction of the light bulb, this job no longer exists.

9. Stenographer: used to be prized for the ability to write in “shorthand,” a special abbreviated kind of note-taking useful for business transactions, court, and other things. When recording equipment became popular, this job was no longer needed.

10. Porter- there is no more gate keeper because there is less homes with gate and the house that has gates are now automatic.

May 19, 2009- Sexting

May 18, 2009

1. Sexting- a term created by the media referring to sending sexually explicit text messages.

2. Though it usually starts as casual, sexting  is dangerous.  If you have pictures of a naked minor on your phone, you can get in serious trouble with the law. It can also lead to harassment to the person from the picture. In one case, the girl could not take it anymore, and hung herself.

4. No, you can’t trust all your friends. You might think you know someone and trust them with something, and then find out the next day that something has gone terribly wrong. You should be very careful about who you trust. It is best not to send those kind of pictures at all. The phone could get into the wrong hands. You could get in a fight with that friend, and you will wish you hadn’t sent those pictures. I have sent those kind of photos, so I have never been betrayed by any of my friends in that way.

5. Sexting is dangerous. Photos of you, meant for only the eyes of someone you thought you could trust, could end up on the Internet, for the whole world to see. You could start being harassed by people you never knew, and by people you thought you knew. You might not be able to take the harassment. Think before you hit send.

Small Little Worlds

These are simply water drops. But inside are entire worlds. I find this magical, thinking about all the other tiny little worlds out there in nature. I love the colors, and the clarity of the image.

Sun and Tree

Simply a tree at sunset. I love the way the sun rays are bending around the tree and along the roots.

Never Ending Road

It is a never ending path. I want to just go spend the day walking down this path and see where it would take me. It could end up taking me anywhere. To me this image represents endless possibilities.

Spectacular Storm

This is a storm, in Louisiana. The storm lights up the night sky into a beautiful deep purple. I love storms. I love watching them, listening to them, and sleeping through them. I want to be there in that picture, to experience it.

Twilight Rainbow

A rainbow at twilight. The rainbow frames the trees. It makes the twilight sky even more beautiful.
